PhysioFrog Origins

Take a read at the inspirations behind the development of PhysioFrog and the team’s underlying goals with the software.

Birth of an Idea

The PhysioFrog story almost seems like a work of fiction; the protagonist capitalises on his injury by naively attempting to create a digital solution. However, many successful startups tell stories with similar plotlines and use it to highlight the significance of their product – so that’s what we’re doing! Despite this plotline, I believe that my experiences – from weekend sport to COVID-19 – primarily shaped the features, design, and exercises behind PhysioFrog: Injury Care.

Walking home on a London evening, I was enduring the discomfort and frustration of a groin pull I suffered during an earlier volleyball training. While I questioned my groin’s fitness in sight for an upcoming football fixture that Saturday, the idea for a digital prevention and recovery tool sparked. At the time, the idea was very raw, but with countless scenarios and thoughts playing in my head during those subsequent days, the foundation for the application was established. Through retrospect, I’ve come to understand that a significant element of PhysioFrog’s role is to relieve the fears associated with an injury’s consequences, along with relieving the injury itself. Athletes hate a muscle strain. But what they hate more is watching from the sidelines – helpless.

Preparing the Athlete

At PhysioFrog, we’ve adopted an ‘umbrella term’ for our product’s features: preparation. Our exercises cover scopes of muscle mobility, strength, and endurance, which subsequently contribute to individuals preventing and recovering from common injury – such as straining. Yet, even if the individual isn’t necessarily focused on tackling an injured muscle group, performing our exercises will improve their muscles’ fitness. It is with that reason we believe that our exercises prepare individuals. They prepare individuals for the athletic optimum.

Developing the Application

As a six-pack-seeking teenager during the COVID-19 pandemic, I witnessed the uprise of the ‘online fitness’ industry. From Strava to Nike Training Club, I developed a strong understanding of the favoured interfaces, exercise durations, and formats for a fitness app. This allowed me to gracefully transfer my knowledge to PhysioFrog’s interface, capitalising on the strengths of the many apps I encountered. Competing in various sports growing up, such as football and athletics, gave me the insight into the difficulties county divisions face when dealing with an athlete’s wellbeing. Pulled hamstring? Go home and ‘sit it off’. The emotion behind those scenarios was an essential consideration when developing all features on the application. Both those experiences were crucial for the blueprint of the application, and what was later incorporated as PHYSIOFROG INJURY CARE LTD.

Thinking logically, I concluded that despite being of a lower intensity than the professional, amateur-level sport is still of a high intensity relative to the participant. With an unstrict diet and cheaper equipment, it is inevitable that individuals will still be highly prone to injury. The same types of injury as the professionals, and the same emotions felt. Therefore, I continued to follow my intuition by developing exercise routines that focus on muscle preparation, with the weekend warrior at the forefront of my mind.

Our Mission

Since its birth, PhysioFrog has always been my priority. My obsession for sport and performance only strengthens that outlook. Publications, such as Sports Injury: Prevention and Rehabilitation, gave me an incredible foundation to develop a health & fitness app of this kind. Deeper reading into scientific papers on muscle mechanisms and sport preparation filled my many curiosities, inspiring me to implement new approaches to the app’s interface and experience. The pleasure gained from developing this app has been a huge factor in its successful launch to both the App and Play Store. We, as a team, hope that that continued pleasure will accelerate our creativity and ensure that our presence on the mobile stores is a permanent one.

At PhysioFrog, our mission is to provide individuals with personalised exercises that effectively prevent and recover them from injury, preparing only for peak performance – in their sport and lifestyle.
